The long-running efforts to preserve lost iPod clickwheel games finally reaches an end, as each title has been successfully saved for posterity.
While the iPod lineup was officially discontinued in 2022, that has not stopped enthusiasts from finding ways to preserve some games that had been lost to time. In an interview with Ars Technica, GitHub user Olsro of the iPod Clickwheel Games Preservation Project stated that all 54 iPod click wheel titles are now available in a complete library. The click wheel carried over into the iPod Nano lineup and future iPod Classic models. From 2006 to 2009, Apple released 54 iPod click wheel games that utilized the distinct control scheme, including a port of Sega's influential Genesis title, Sonic the Hedgehog, alongside mobile hits like Peggle and Bejeweled. One of the major obstacles standing in the way of the click wheel game project was Apple's FairPlay DRM, which required users who still owned legitimate click wheel game copies to sync their accounts to a coordinated Virtual Machine. This machine, in turn, could act as a method to provide playable click wheel games to any iPod device that can connect to it.The Stop Killing Games initiative, created following Ubisoft's shutdown of The Crew, was made to persuade game developers to allow users to preserve and keep the games they paid for accessible in some way. Some methods include allowing private or community servers to make some online-only titles playable.

And normally, that’s not an issue; even a competent take on a character action game inspired by the likes of Bayonetta or Devil May Cry is probably going to provide some fluffy, inoffensive fun – and to its credit, Lost Soul Aside is more than competent as an action game.
With a better localization, more lively voice direction, or a stronger commitment to the bit, Lost Soul Aside could perhaps have nailed the same B-movie-like campy charm worn so well by the action games that so clearly inspired its better parts. Instead, it’s somehow both half-hearted and overserious.Unfortunately, Lost Soul Aside isn’t a pure boss-rush combat gauntlet, and the rest of the gameplay between each fight isn’t nearly as compelling. Most of the levels are made up of a linear, boring series of corridors with occasional “open” areas that add an extra platforming “challenge” or two to the mix.Lost Soul Aside would’ve been a great character action game if it hadn’t gone out of its way to do anything outside of that. Cosplaying as a Final Fantasy game, its wheel-spinning story doesn’t go anywhere and an unmemorable cast of (often derivative) characters are played by actors who aren’t given much to work with.Lost Soul Aside’s repetitive story, derivative characters, and bland level design take turns setting up rakes for its excellent combat to step on. This game would be much better without trying to be an RPG.

You kids and your Switches and your Switch 2s and your mobile phones with Clash of Clans. Why, back in my day, we had to make-do with Game Boys, which you couldn't play if the room was even just a little bit dark. In fact, some of us had to make do with games you played using a clickwheel on an iPod.All jokes aside (well, only mostly aside), the iPod games were a weird part of mobile gaming history. These were games you played on the iPod screen and controlled wholly via the clickwheel on the front, a piece of tech that some of us wish made a return. And we're not talking about shoveware titles here; given the popularity of the iPod, we saw some big names in media try their shot at making a clickwheel game. That last game was really hard to preserve: there was some curse around it. Multiple persons came to me and there was always something wrong or an unexpected disaster preventing us to complete the process. 1 mac HDD + 2 iPod HDDs died when the persons were trying to backup the game files. The iPod clickwheel games were a quirky era that ported big names like Pac-Man, Sonic, and Tetris.
Bing created a game studio, UltiZero Games, that now has about 40 employees and elevated Lost Soul Aside, which was released for the PlayStation 5 and PC last week, from an independent game into something bigger.
Sony was expanding its presence in the country after the success of its partnership with Genshin Impact, a popular mobile role-playing game. In the latest round of applications, more than 200 developers applied to be part of the China Hero Project. Less than 5 percent were accepted. The incubator has been successful enough to spawn similar Sony projects, including within India and another in the Middle East and North Africa region. But as the landscape in China has evolved, so has the China Hero Project. Lost Soul Aside is a Cinderella story where an indie game was plucked from obscurity and transformed. The early hype around Lost Soul Aside did not exist in a vacuum. When the game was unveiled in July 2016, fans of role-playing games were frustrated that Final Fantasy XV had been delayed several times.Lost Soul Aside, an action role-playing game, was a personal project for Yang Bing when he started working on it more than a decade ago.Twelve games have been released under the China Hero Project, including Lost Soul Aside, its de facto flagship game.
Finding working copies of the last few titles was an “especially cursed” journey.
The community was working to get around Apple's onerous FairPlay DRM by having people who still owned original copies of those (now unavailable) games sync their accounts to a single iTunes installation via a coordinated Virtual Machine. At the time, the community was still searching for iPod owners with syncable copies of the last few titles needed for their library. With today's addition of Real Soccer 2009 to the project, though, all 54 official iPod clickwheel games are now available together in an easily accessible format for what is likely the first time.GitHub user Olsro, the originator of the iPod Clickwheel Games Preservation Project, tells Ars that he lucked into contact with three people who had large iPod game libraries in the first month or so after the project's launch last October.Getting working access to the final unpreserved game, Real Soccer 2009, was "especially cursed," Olsro tells Ars. "Multiple [people] came to me during this summer and all attempts failed until a new one from yesterday," he said. "I even had a situation when someone had an iPod Nano 5G with a playable copy of Real Soccer, but the drive was appearing empty in the Windows Explorer.

If you have an old iPod laying around, I recommend checking out Phase. It's a great music game by Harmonix that you could import your own music into: View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9scEk1_lQXcIt did not play well, but the novelty of having it on a device meant to play music was enough for me. I also knew about Phase, but I didn't realize/don't remember being 52 other games made for the device. Either way, it's amazing that they have all been preserved.

These are toys from games played by Singaporeans in years past. While digital games such as Minecraft and Candy Crush rule the modern day, old-school games like capteh and kuti kuti once reigned supreme in Singapore’s schoolyards and playgrounds.
Colorado has lost games in practically every way imaginable this season. We look back on how the team reached 100 losses.
The Rockies would have more games like this. Only the Boston Red Sox have made more defensive errors this season. For three decades, baseball at altitude has bruised ERAs and egos. Here's what it's really like taking MLB's scariest mound. Story » · So, it turns out that Phillies series was nothing. The Rockies hit the road in San Diego and lost 8-0 (with three hits and 15 strikeouts), 2-0 (four hits, nine strikeouts) and 6-0 (two hits, eight strikeouts). As the headline on the Purple Row site read: "Padres 21, Rockies 0: They only lost by three touchdowns..." On the other hand, maybe the worst play of the season was in Colorado's next loss. Trailing the Dodgers 3-1 with one out in the bottom of the ninth, Tyler Freeman was on first base when Estrada lined out to left-center field. The one thing Freeman absolutely cannot do in that situation: get doubled off first base for the game's final out.A three-game home series in early August against the Toronto Blue Jays turned into a series of historic proportions ... at least if you're into the macabre.
